Somer has been singing since she was 3 years old, whether singing in the car, on her karaoke machine, or in school chorus....She has always loved to sing!
Somer's "Uncle Sandy", encouraged her to enter a small talent show in Gwinnett at "The Flying Machine". She sang "Amazing Grace" a cappella and captured the attention of everyone there. Allen Coefield happened to be there and wrote an editorial about Somer on his website AtlantaCountryMusic.com detailing what happened there that day. Please read the full editorial by clicking the"Editorials & Press" link above.
Allen later asked her to sing the "National Anthem" and "Georgia on My Mind" at the upcoming 1st Annual Atlanta Country Music.com Georgia Music Festival in Kennesaw, GA. It was her first real performance on a big stage at Cowboy's in Kennesaw...she was nervous but sang her heart out.
After joining the Georgia Country & Gospel Music Association, "GCGMA" in 2006, she took part in the GCGMA Music Pageant in Dalton, GA. She was awarded "Most Memorable Performance" in the Junior Miss 12-15 Yrs. catagory and was one of the youngest in her group at 12 years old.
On November 11, 2006 Somer was named the "Female Vocalist of the Year" at the Annual GCGMA Awards. This made her eligible to compete on the National Level and would compete with other winners from across the country at the North American Country Music Assoc. International Competition in Pigeon Forge, TN.
And finally, she moved onto the National Level Competition with "NACMAI" (North American Country Music Association International), in Pigeon Forge, TN. in March 2007 where she performed for judges and a Saturday night audience and received a standing ovation! She sang her heart out again in one of the toughest competitions and catagories and was named2007 NACMAI "New Country Female Vocalist of the Year".
Since then once again, Somer will be heading to Pigeon Forge, TN to compete in the National Competition for both "Vocalist of the Year" & "Entertainer of the Year" in March 2008!
